The 51st Aero Squadron is a member-owned, non-profit flying club based in Bessemer, AL at Mitchell Field (KEKY). The club was founded on March 15, 2013 after months of research and planning by Ed Murray. For a more information about the formation of the 51st Aero Squadron, please see the AOPA article "Now Taking Off: 51st Aero Squadron Flying Club".
Our club is comprised of pilots of various experience levels including student, private and commercial pilots. We began with a single plane, N36491, a 1978 Piper Archer II. In May of 2016, we added N151AV to our fleet. It is a 1985 Piper Archer II. Since that time we have added two more aircraft including a Piper Arrow II. We promote aviation safety, education and fellowship through meetings, social activities, and member flight training.
